Pilot Bear Jet

£75.00

During the First World War, as soldiers prepared to go off to war, they were often given small teddy bears, many made by companies such as Farnell to keep them company and offer a little comfort from home.

As you may know, I create my own versions of these traditional bears, inspired by that same sense of companionship and history.

While there weren’t specifically “pilot bears” made for aircrew at the time, I like to imagine that these little aviator fellows would have made just as wonderful companions for those taking to the skies.

This little one is called Jet. He is 3 & 1/2 inches tall and made from sparse golden mohair which I have further plucked, shaded and waxed for a "well loved" look. He has brown glass eyes, a stitched, waxws nosw and is fully cotter pin jointed.

Jet is stuffed with Kapok, often used in the making of early bears, and has tiny steel discs in his tummy for a nice weight. He comes with his worn aviator hat and a bronze effect "Hope" charm around his neck.
