WW1 Soldier Bear replica William Phillips

£74.00

During WW1 many Soldiers took with them a little bear given by their loved ones which had eyes highup on it's head so that he peeped out of their top pockets of their uniforms.

I started making my version of these bears many years ago and often name them after Soldiers that died during the war.

William Phillips was a Soldier during WW1 with the Worcester Regiment and sadly was killed in action on 27th August 1917 aged 29.

I have named this bear after him.

William Phillips is made from an apricot mohair that I have plucked, shaded and waxed. He has brown glass eyes and a stitched, waxed nose.

He is fully jointed and stuffed with Kapok,a natural product from the Kapok tree, used in many early bears.

He has tiny steel discs in his body for a nice weight and comes wearing a red, white and blue ribbon with a rusty old safety pin and a "hope" charm attached.
