WW1 Soldier Bear replica Christopher George Jones
During WW1 many Soldiers took with them a little bear given by their loved ones which had eyes high up on it's head so that he peeped out of their top pockets of their uniforms.
I started making my version of these bears many years ago and often name them after Soldiers that died during the war.
Christopher George Jones was a Soldier during WW1 and sadly died aged 35.
I have named this white bear after him.
Christopher George Jones is made from white mohair that I have plucked, shaded him light grey and waxed. He has 2 odd eyes, one small clear eye and the other a larger blue glass eye to make him look like he has had many repairs over the years. He has a stitched, waxed nose.
He is fully jointed and stuffed with Kapok,a natural product from the Kapok tree, used in many early bears.
He has tiny steel discs in his body for a nice weight and comes wearing a red, white and blue ribbon with a rusty old safety pin and a "hope" charm attached.
